How Long do earthquakes go for?

It depends on how big the earthquake is.

What is an earthquake?

An earthquake is when 2 pieces of the ground move very quickly past one another and make the ground shake.

Why does the earth shake when there is an earthquake?

The energy that is making the the 2 pieces of ground move is being stored up and then it gets relesed and the ground shakes
